![]() ![]() ![]() I read it during a very stressful time, though. ![]() I had been anticipating it for a year or more, but even though I remembered Mister Impossible‘s biggest twists and the anxiety of that terrible cliffhanger, I remembered very little from the rest of the book. Greywaren, the final book in Maggie Stiefvater’s Dreamer Trilogy, was released in October and I eagerly bought it on the day it was available. I don’t know how I got so behind with my reading in 2022. Here’s what I read… Mister Impossible by Maggie Stiefvater I bought and therefore read a lot of books by favorite authors this month and will likely do the same through February. I’m still riding high off my haul from the big post-Christmas Barnes and Noble sale, where I bought a bunch of books that I’ve been meaning to read for a while. We got some snow, so I got a few extra days off work and got to take my puppy Darcy on some freezing cold walks… her favorite kind! Still, on the whole it wasn’t a bad month. The best thing that happened was that I got to see The Lion King onstage-it was absolutely spectacular-and the worst thing is that I started the year with the worst bout of the flu that I’ve ever had. I had some major ups and downs this month. The craziness that was the holidays and the immediate post-holidays is over, but as much as I dislike the holiday stress while at work, it’s very sad to see my sister head back to college and settle back into everyday life. Somehow, unbelievably, we are already a full month into 2023. ![]()

For one, there's a new Head Girl, Elizabeth Hurst, and a team of Prefects- and these bullying Big Girls are certainly not good eggs. Presumably unable to think of a new UF-style plot (despite prior groundwork), Breene decides to recycle ‘accept the magic’ premise of discovering and accepting her supposed ability to fly. ha.) and take them to the magical-people bar (logic escapes me). She compounds this with stupid decision-making, by deciding it would be appropriate to date non-magical people (‘Dicks,’ of ‘Dick and Jane’ fame, ha. I'm not sure how we got here, because that wasn't really the mental focus of the last book, which left her and the reader preparing for a magical attack. However, the sequel is entirely content to backtrack and recycle, first by suddenly giving us a main character that goes from embracing independence and a new way of living (hello, magic metaphor!) to one that is focused on dating. As she uncovers the mysteries of the house, she discovers she is spiritual heir to its magic and the plot revolves around discovering and accepting that magic and a new life. ![]() ![]() The premise is that a woman is at odds after divorcing and her only son going off to college, so when she inherits a house out of the blue in a small California town, she thinks, ‘why not?’ The eccentric butler and gardener only add to the appeal. I thought the first book in the series, Magical Midlife Madness, quite cute. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Unlike many well-known writers of his day, Blake was born into a family of moderate means. In his Life of William Blake (1863) Alexander Gilchrist warned his readers that Blake “neither wrote nor drew for the many, hardly for work’y-day men at all, rather for children and angels himself ‘a divine child,’ whose playthings were sun, moon, and stars, the heavens and the earth.” Yet Blake himself believed that his writings were of national importance and that they could be understood by a majority of his peers.
